• NICKY MANLOVE

Nicky Manlove (they/she) is a conductor based in Tucson, AZ, on the occupied lands of the Tohono O’odham and Pascua Yacqui peoples and in la herida abierta (cred. Gloria Anzaldúa)– the open wound of US imperialism and violent border militarism. Nicky is the founding director of THEM Youth Ensemble, a performing arts organization that propels the world-building imagination of queer and trans young people, is the director of music at St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church, is an associate conductor with the Tucson Girls Chorus, and is a proud member of the choral faculty at the University of Arizona where they conduct the University Community Chorus. Nicky is a committed advocate of equity-centered and liberatory choral practice, and supports a number of justice-focused choral initiatives nationally. They are on the leadership team of The Choral Commons, a media platform that provides a space for singing communities to realize the liberatory potential of the ensemble as a site of radical imagining. They serve on DEI committees for ACDA Western Region, the Presbyterian Association of Musicians, and are the DEI Chair for the Arizona chapter of ACDA. Nicky holds a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts, emphasis in Music from Seattle University, and a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the University of Arizona, where they studied with Alyssa Cossey and Elizabeth Schauer.
